So, I did a thing. Well, I wrote a thing: a beautiful, amazing middle grade novel!! Oh my goodness!

First of all, I haven’t given up YA or New Adult fiction. I’m actually drafting a sequel to Lake of Secrets. Hazel’s little story about finding a lost horse in the woods just sort of came to me (as stories often do), and I fell in love with 11-year-old Hazel and her 13-year-old brother, Henry. They were fun to write about, and I did my best to make their story a page-turner!

What is Hazel’s Horse Adventure all about?

*Hazel wants to go to her best friend’s party and is not happy when she has to go to her Grandpa’s farm instead.

*Lots of events at Grandpa’s farm are keeping everyone busy: Grandpa’s surgery, the collapsed barn roof, the animals that need tending, and Grandpa’s dogs who are hard to keep still!

*Hazel runs after June, one of Grandpa’s dogs, and she finds herself deeper in the forest than she anticipated. It’s there, she spots a beautiful horse. She can’t believe her eyes! But the horse takes off before she can approach it.

*With the unsolicited help of Henry, the two of them work together to try to find the horse and get her to safety. But it’s not easy!

*When everything comes to a head, the family will have to come together to help the horse and repair their relationships.

I’m already working on books 2 and 3, which will be Henry’s Horse Adventure and Jenny’s Horse Adventure. These characters are so fun. My favorites were Georgie and June. Writing about these adorable Golden Retrievers made my work as an author easy!

Please check out this great middle grade novel (yes, yes, I’m biased). It does an author’s heart good to know the readers love the story as much as the writer does.

Much love,

Shay
