• Shay Lee Giertz is a Michigan gal living in North Carolina. Two of her degrees hail from the University of Michigan. Go Blue!
• Shay Lee is actually a doctor! Not a medical doctor, but she earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership.
• Shay Lee is married to John who is a nurse. They like to joke with their friends that there’s always doctor and nurse in their house.
• Shay Lee has two wonderful sons. Jonathan is her oldest, and he earned his degree in Criminal Justice and now works in security. Benjamin is still in high school, but he already has big dreams for his future.
• Shay Lee Giertz is actually the pen name for author, Janice Broyles. This is because Janice writes in different genres and wanted a pen name that focused specifically on suspenseful young adult books. Even though Shay Lee is now branching out into Middle Grade novel writing! It’s all good. She loves to write and loves coming up with new story ideas. 
• The name “Shay” is to honor her mother who was always called “Shay” by friends. Her last name “Giertz” is her maiden last name that gives honor to her father. And “Lee” is actually Janice’s middle name. So, there you go! Shay…Lee…Giertz!
